i hate being sick

Monday, January 28th, 2008

For the last several days my wife and I have been dreadfully sick. We got back from Gulfcoast Getaway and within a few days fell quite ill. I have been aching all over my body, had chills, cough, sore throat, and a legion of demons coming out of me for about 5 days now. I can’t begin to tell you how long it’s been since I was this sick. I just don’t normally get this sick. Lesser mortals around me get sick it seems but I typically step over such specimens of Darwin’s Theory and carry on like anyone should. But this disease stepped up from it’s normal arena of participants and challenged me and I lost dreadfully. I have been pretty worthless unable to even read magazines or watch much television. The only solid food I’ve been able to ingest till recently were bagel bites if they can really be called solid food. But thankfully I am starting to feel better and I am able to sleep more often but I am still winded just moving around the least bit. I look forward to full health and will undoubtedly feel more compassion towards my sick brethren when I see them. Let me tell you also that ibuprofen in whatever form you can take it is a miracle drug. I was taking naproxen sodium (Aleve) with no luck but switched to ibuprofen and have seen far better results with general pain relief.

Well we’re back from Gulfcoast Getaway. I’ve been trying to recover from the week. Amy and I both came back under the weather but all in all it’s nothing compared to the wonderful weekend we had. The time of worship was great as was the time spent listening to Randy Harris and Chris Seidman. (more…)

organic ministry?

Friday, January 4th, 2008

I was reading recently that the word organic is being unbindingly barred from use in some academic/professional circles. Apparently it’s use has becomes so muddied that people are unwilling to accept it as a word that has any implied meaning anymore. Of course there’s always that wonderful semiotics debate that is to be had with words and their meanings but we all know semiotics is pointless anyway. The point is still to be made that once a word becomes popular, like organic so recently has, it always runs the risk of losing any real meaning. But that’s not to say that it doesn’t have some value it’s just that like anything overplayed or used it takes someone who knows it’s proper place to reign it back in and give it life once again.
